Communiqué – CUPE Strike Vote

As you are aware, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), the bargaining unit representing educational and clerical staff in schools, custodians and bus drivers, among others, is currently conducting a strike vote.

Under the Public Service Labour Relations Act, a successful strike vote could mean a potential legal strike for those groups as early as mid to late September.

We understand our members can have questions with regards to the impact of a strike from CUPE on their work. The NBTF will continue to monitor the situation and discuss with representatives from EECD and districts to determine clear directives for our members.

For your information, I have attached a link to the NBTF Policy N-10: Work Stoppage by Non-Teaching Personnel.

We will keep you updated of new developments as they arise.
